Academic Standards

Academic Dismissal Appeals must include:

1. A completed dismissal appeal by the approved deadline.
2. Clear and concise background information that describes the extenuating circumstances that negatively impacted academic performance.
3. Documentation of that extenuating circumstance from an official source (i.e., doctor's note with dates during the semester (for a medical-related issue for you or immediate family member), counseling note (for your mental health stressors), death certificate/notice (for a member of your immediate family); etc.)

4. Describe specific steps--such as attending instructor's office hours, seeking out tutoring, and meeting with an academic advisor before the pass/fail deadline--you will take next semester to alter and improve your academic performance.  

5. Students must use their Buffalo State network username and password to access this process. 

6. The deadline to submit the Fall 24 Academic Dismissal Appeal is 3:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025. 

7. Late appeals will NOT be accepted!

8. Please refer to the dismissal timeline for important dates. 

 Dismissed students may apply for readmission to Buffalo State after one year away from the college. 

The Admissions Office can provide information about the undergraduate readmission process.  Note that all holds on account at Buffalo State must be resolved before readmission applications are considered, and transfer credits do not impact Buffalo State grade point averages.
