Spring 2020/COVID-19 Policy Revisions

In Spring 2020, in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Buffalo State revised a number of policies. The Provost's April 2021 announcement summarizes these revisions. This page is maintained for archival purposes. The information on this page is intended for the use of students, advisers, staff/faculty, and prospective transfer students to assist them in academic planning and policy interpretation. Spring 2020 Policy Revisions for Buffalo State Students

Exceptions were made to the Pass/Fail policy for undergraduates in Spring 2020. Departments approved select courses in majors and minors to be permitted as Pass/Fail courses. Note that the course repeat grading mode policy did not change.

Graduate students were permitted to request Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading mode by academic petition appeal in Spring 2020.

Spring 2020 Policy Revisions for Incoming Transfer Students (Summer 2020 and later)

Undergraduate courses taken elsewhere in Spring 2020 and passed with a non-letter grade will be accepted, as long as the course was accepted in Spring 2020 at Buffalo State in the pass-fail grading mode.
Per SUNY, undergraduate transfer students with a passed non-letter grade in the equivalent of CWP 101 and/or CWP 102 in Spring 2020 will be awarded transfer credit for the course(s).
Any version of a passing non-letter grade earned in an undergraduate course at another institution in Spring 2020 will equate to a passed course, and will be evaluated for transfer equivalency at Buffalo State.
Any version of a passing non-letter grade earned in a graduate course at another institution in Spring 2020 will equate to a passed course, and will be determined for graduate transfer credit by the academic department at Buffalo State. All other graduate transfer credit requirements apply.
As graduate policy prohibits the acceptance of Pass/Fail coursework for transfer credit acceptance, any version of a passing non-letter grade earned in a graduate course at another institution in Spring 2020 must be petitioned through the Academic Appeals Committee for acceptance of transfer equivalency at Buffalo State. Support from the student’s academic program chair and The Graduate School must be included with the petition in order for approval to be considered.
